Long time followers of ManchesterMusic, will remember Fast Lady from their appearances at the website’s Electric Circus live nights. A cloaked ensemble, who wandered onto the stage from the crowd, faces obscured, before they transmitted a slew of electro, cock rock masterpieces. They’re back and no less tempered by the passage of time. This maxi-release is two co-joined EPs, “Unsheathed” and “Penetrated”. “Guns Women And Bikes” is the bastard son of Guns ‘N Roses and Nitzer Ebb. “Oradoh The Horse” uses the script from Ren & Stimpy for lyrics, bringing along what sounds like Davros for a bit of fun on the chorus. The trademarks are still here, from inspired computer programming to wiry heavy rock guitar movements.
And so it continues; “Poontang” is a tough enough prospect, with angst apparent and the industrial machinations brought to a slow, crawling sway of fuzz and clockwork tiks. “Shaven” is their funkiest, although Fast Lady continue with their mad cap connotations, with lyrics summoning up catchphrases like “Finger Lickin’, Like Momma’s Chicken…”. Yet somehow the comedy or the sleaze, never overwhelms Fast Lady’s music – instead the commercial appeal seeps through, in the same way Zodiac Mindwarp, baffled and fooled a generation of rockers.
The “Penetrated” segment consists of three remixes of “Penetrator” and a final reworking of “Guns Women And Bikes”. DJ Cattlehammer adds a crazy take on “Penetrator”, its jumbled results somehow making sense, but it’s the final “Guns Women And Bikes” which pays a fit and proper tribute to Zodiac Mindwarp (who the band have played live with), both in name (Prime Mover Remix) and its introduction, ripped straight from the band themselves.
This is all bloody good fun – as good as ever and no doubt as much of a sonic and physical spectacle it was before.
The album “WE ATE ROCK” will follow in February 2010
